Let’s go save them, but … where to go?

Let’s save people, but … where are they?

We have talk at the phone with the victims, but … did not trace the call.

We collaborated with other authorities, but … didn’t get along. Who spoke with who?

We solved the situation, but … two people are dead.

This is the short version of the Romanian medical plane rescue mission that took place in Apuseni Mountains. Somewhere out there, where Cluj, Alba and Bihor counties meet, somewhere in „Ursoaia” region, a medical plane, with important technical issues, that hadn’t been used for almost a year because of these problems, had a forced landing into the woods. With severe injures, the seven people of the medical team had been forced to wait more than five hours to be rescued, despite the fact that they contacted the Romanian authorities. The reason? Lack of professionalism proven by those who went to save the medics. Beside the local authorities, other people volunteered to search the plane; but they were simple people and not to be blamed. On the other hand, the rescue team, because its lack of brain, opt for an old search method, by creating a human chain around the so called crash spot instead of using modern telephone localizing. The result: two men dead (the pilot and the house physician did not make it), four people with severe injures and just one individual with slight wounds. And apart from all these, the victims were found by a forester. Yes, you heard me: a forester.

The chaos when quickly from A to Z, from the man in charge of the rescue mission to the head of the Government. And, as usual, those who paid where the victims. But who pays for ineffectiveness, indolence and negligence?

Where were the military helicopters that have the necessary equipment for night search? Where were the mountain huntsmen, specially trained for crises? were was the authorities’ promptness? The action plan? The neurons? why wasn’t the plane immediately located by the black box, or by GPS?

For those who died, I hope they rest in peace. For those who lived, I hope they recover the physical trauma and the emotional tragedy of losing their friends and colleagues.
